In news from California we hear that Carl DeMaio, a gay Republican congressional candidate, was accused of sexually harassing a former campaign worker and attempting to bribe him to keep quiet.
Amazingly, this isn’t the first time DeMaio has been accused of inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace. Yet House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is sticking by DeMaio, and the party’s campaign committee has spent nearly $2 million to help him win the seat.
And while the GOP establishment is spending big for this moderate Republican, they aren’t doing anything to help principled candidates like Alex Mooney (R-WV), Zach Dasher (R-LA), and Dave Brat (R-VA). (Brat, you’ll remember is the candidate that took down Eric Cantor, former whip, though a grassroots campaign based on putting America on the right track. Cantor meanwhile had focused on his bid to be Speaker.)
Do you believe that party bosses in Washington are always going to prioritize Establishment “moderates” over conservatives? Is this OK? Do you think that regardless of sexual orientation, any sexual misconduct should incur withdrawal of funds and public shaming from the party? Where do you stand?
