Rick Santorum Jumps Into 2016 GOP Presidential Race

1

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum made his official campaign announcement today in an interview with Hillary Clinton’s personal newsman George Stephanopoulos.

Santorum was the surprise winner of the 2012 Iowa caucus, riding support from evangelicals to 25% of the total vote.  This time around, Santorum is banking on the same kind of grassroots organization.

A senior Santorum adviser says the candidate has more than “2000 team leaders on the ground ready to go” and a fully formed campaign staff “with four times as many people” as they had last time.

Right now, he adds, in Iowa there are “12 long-shot candidates, and no favorites. Everybody’s got a challenge.”

Santorum was considered a long shot back in 2012 when

The former Pennsylvania senator exceeded the political world’s expectations by scoring a second-place finish in the race for the Republican presidential nomination four years ago. Yet as he competes again, he may struggle even to qualify for the debate stage in 2016.
