Willful blindness and Orlando

Orlando.  Once a name associated with mouse ears, orange groves and the NBA Magic will forever be known for a terrorist attack that was both breathtakingly predictable and incredibly tragic.

Shamefully, President Obama, Hillary Clinton and yes, even Donald Trump, all went political in the news cycle before the tears of the victim’s families had even stopped falling.  But that is the nature of the 21st century instant media world that we live in, where the first to set the narrative controls the debate, regardless of facts or even a basic sense of decency.

The questions that keeps radiating in my mind is how did someone who was on the FBI watch list keep employed by a federal security contractor?  How did someone who two high school classmates allege cheered the attacks on 9/11 ever pass a background check to get a security job in the first place?  And how can the willfully blind political left in the U.S. continue to ignore the evidence set brutally before them about the dangers inherent in radical Islam?

The first two questions will be answered through various inquiries and just as the shoe-bomber has left a legacy of everyone taking off their shoes to go on an airplane, there will undoubtedly be some response that inconveniences everyone but an actual terrorist.

But it is the third question that actually matters moving forward as a nation.

The new ideology of the left is built around a seeming unwritten hierarchy of victimhood built around race, gender and sexual preference.

Since 9/11, however, the left has seemingly raced to embrace followers of Islam as victims too, as the fear that this religious group may face some special persecution runs rampant, accelerating with every terrorist act and perpetuated by the media cautions against jumping to conclusions.

So it was not surprising that when another jihadist chose to enter an Orlando night club with the intent to kill as many gay partiers as possible that the left went blind to what everyone else can clearly see.

Their default, of course, was to caution against blaming all of Islam for the actions of one mad man, and to instead blame all of America’s gun owners for those very same actions.

What is particularly alarming is that this predictable blind spot is being built into the very government agencies that are supposed to protect us according to Department of Homeland Security whistle blower Philip Haney, an agent for DHS since its founding.  In his just released book, “See Something, Say Nothing,” Haney details how references to Islam are being wiped from the investigative records so those seeking to track terrorist networks get dead ended when trying to follow their bread crumbs.

This willful decision to play see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil with our nation’s internal security is the natural outgrowth of the new left’s increasing unwillingness to deal with unpleasant realities. How did they miss the videos of gays being thrown off buildings to their death by Islamic State? They didn’t, they merely deluded themselves into believing that Islamic State doesn’t represent a vibrant, accepted philosophy within Islam.

In a very real respect, it is the blinding or our intelligence agency’s to the role Islam itself plays in these terrorist networks that allows these very networks to grow, and the true miracle is that Orlando, San Bernardino, Fort Hood and Boston are still anomalies rather than the norm.

What is ironic is when we refuse to follow these bread crumbs of truth, all Muslims get blamed by the American citizenry for the actions of those who have been radicalized. Whether the radicalization happened through an Islamic school in Pakistan, or a mosque, or prison in the U.S. or the Internet does not matter, what is important is that the left and our government return to dealing with the root causes of these attacks honestly.

Ultimately, it is through following and ripping the terrorist networks within Islam out by the roots that those who choose to peacefully follow the religion will achieve the acceptance that they are seeking.

Our nation must defend itself and its people from terrorist attacks, and we cannot win that war if we refuse to understand the motivations of those who hate us so deeply. It’s time to take both the blinders and the gloves off, and get back to the very serious business of uprooting the domestic network that threatens us, engaging in exhaustive checks of those who come from nations determined to harm us, and secure our borders to stop those who find it easier to embed through illegally entering the country.

Orlando. May America wake up from our suicidal blindness out of your suffering.

He passed the background because nothing he did was illegal or required OR suggested further close monitoring. First amendment rights you know? Those rights that you would like to take away from us?

  • Richard Bagenstose

wake up david , tell me how we got radical muslum working in the tsa at the airports ,i’ll tell you the freak in the white house won’t let them screen them and blames it on racial profiling , just like the border , he has done every thing he can to bring the trash into this country, if it continues we will be like the french under ground during wwll , to fight the germans

We meet again and as usual you are blaming everything on the President, who has no powers, it is Congress that controls immigration, not the President. The President can not take a good crap without the aqpproval of Congress.

If the majority of Congress does not approve of what the President does they can shut him down in several ways.
No one can stop the radicals from entering any country, remember 9/11 five of the radicals were squeaky clean, just students here for training and the radicals now will be the same, they are alwys the same, if they walked around with a sign on their back they would be easy to spot but I do not see that happening, there are about 10,000 home grown terrorist in waiting, according to the last report I read, you can not arrest a person for their thoughts, if so we would all probably be charged with some crime. you refer to it as the French Underground, but there were all nationalities in the underground ,and it was riddled with spies from both the US and Germany. It is the same here we have counter insurgance forces everywhere, and they do know where the open radicals are it tis the lone wolf like in Orlando that are not detectable, none of his fmily said he was a devoted radical, they just said he had a fliry temper and hard to get along with.

well robert once again your miss guided, oboma has planted his trolls in charge of all the government agencies and they take there orders from him , congress is not involved , just like his executive orders, well the french underground , was just a for instance , but like then it’s going to be us against them , working under the radar, if we want to survive, i thank god i’m an old man an lived i nice easy life and tried to behave, the best i knew, so if my last couple years have to be fighting to save this country i will do it, we are no longer a country of laws oboma has destroyed that, running the country on his idiology , instead of the rule of law

How can the President issue an Executive Order if he does not have the support of Congress, they can shut his executive order down by a majority vote and repeal the order by a 2/3 majority vote, there are several other ways that it can be stopped, like the law suit the Republican party hs against one of his executive orders.

Congress has oversight of every agency that is in the governmnet, if they do not obey the laws Congress has passed then they can be brought up on charges and fired, I do not know what you mean under the radar, each party is just waiting for the other party to do something wrong so that they can show how corrupt the opposing party is.

After 26 years working for the Governmnet in intelligence then I shoulds know how it works and for whom. .

if Tump is elected President he will find this out also.

well congress is useless , they have bin letting him get away with it

It seems like you still do not get the point. If Congress can not get something out of Committee or do not have enough votes to get something they want passed, they go to the President and say we want him to execute an Executive Order, and the President then sends normally the Vice President, because he is President of the Senate down to the House and Senate to see if there is majority support for the Executive order, if the support is not there then the order is tweeked to a point of having majority support and then the President issues the Executive Order with no fear of the Congress having enough votes to shut it down, the President can also be sued by members of either the Senate or House to stop his order by way of the Supreme court, which will judge if it is legal, not wether people like it or not.
Every thing a President does is under the Microscope of Congress. Congress is the ruling authority in this Governmnet. That is why Bush had to go to Congress when the World trade centes came down, he had no authority to do anything that was permanent.

    An all too accurate comment from a former mid level member of the Reagan administration;

“It will be difficult, perhaps even impossible, to get any truth out of the Orlando shooting. Too many vocal and well organized interest groups have a strong stake in the government’s explanation. It comes to the aid of the anti-Muslim lobby. It comes to the aid of the gun control lobby. It comes to the aid of the progressive-left that wants to normalize homosexual and transgendered people, thus the outpouring of sympathy for those shot in the homosexual night club. It comes to the aid of the spy industry and the police state that want no check on their activities. It comes to the aid of Washington’s murderous foreign policy—so what if we blow up Muslim children—look what they do to us when they grow up, which is what the Israelis continue to say about the Palestinians. It comes to the aid of the neoconservatives and the military-security complex for whom wars against Muslims advance their agenda and fatten their taxpayer funded pocketbooks.”

Yes we do live in a society just like the rest of the free world that every agency has to put their spin on what happened, this instancde will be no different. Our Constitution guarantees every one the persuit of life liberty and happiness and it does not say anything about if you are like any body else, the fight about Gays or Transgender is biblical in nature and our Constitution says there will be a seperation of church and state and no laws will be made based on religion, it seems simple enough to me. I am not biased in any way about gays or Transgender they hurt no one witht heir life style, and it hs been around for centuries just before everyone hid it because of fer for their safety.
It seem you have a hate for Muslims, well I do not understand where you could see all Muslims as bad.
We have had Muslims in the USA since before the Constitution was written and the first Mosque was built in Maryland in 1734. As far as Israel i concerned, how would you feel if the Government came to your area of the country with the lucrative sea ports adn told you that you would have to move with no money for your property that you would just have to leave the area because they were moving Muslims in, well that is what happened in Palestine, when the British Government just gave the area to the Jews because no other country wanted the jews in their country after WWII exposed how they controlled the Government through their money.
Israel holds 100s of millions of dollars that belong to the Palestinians and are constantly pushing the Palestinians off their own land to expand Israel, that is why no other country wanted them, theya re cruel sadistic people, and all jews are not that way, a few of my jewish friends think what Israel has done to the Palestinians is totally wrong.

The recent TV speech that the FBI Director made in response to Orlando convinces me, more now than ever, that this man is lost in the weeds, as are all other security agencies, about terrorist! This adds to my belief that the hilly e-mails debacle is lost and to the liberals as their victory. This man has ne clues to indict!
