2016 Election, Donald Trump, Issues, Media

The agony of the punditry

Liberal bias in the legacy media is certainly nothing new or unremarked upon. What is new is the hysterical tenor the media has taken on regarding Donald J. Trump. The subtle shiv that used to be ideological weapon of choice has been replace the jack hammer and rhetorical air raid sirens.

In a way this is encouraging.  It is as if they know they are losing the argument and rather than refining their points they are getting red in the face and pounding the table.  To news consuming voters this is I believe off putting. It is like walking in on a heated argument between a husband and wife, all you want to do is get out of the room.

As an example of the phenomena what is listed below are five articles that were live on the Washington Post’s web site in just one day.

“Trump’s special version of Jim Crow — for Muslims” – By Eugene Robinson, June 20.

“Donald Trump apparently wants to institute something akin to Jim Crow discrimination against Muslims, including those who are citizens of the United States. Is this what the Republican Party wants as well?

“What’s your opinion about legalized religious bigotry, House Speaker Paul Ryan (Wis.)? How about you, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.)? Do Republican quislings agree with the man they have endorsed for president? They should never again speak of the hallowed traditions of the Party of Lincoln, because those ideals are being spit upon by the presumptive nominee. The GOP is now the Party of Trump.”

“A delegate revolt has become Republicans’ only option” – Mike Gerson, June 20.

“If a revolt emerges, it will happen first in the GOP convention rules committee — which meets a week before the convention and is stacked with officials more loyal to the party than to Trump. The simplest move would be to require a supermajority to select a nominee — an approach taken by some Republican state conventions in order to avoid the choice of badly wounded candidates. The goal should be a truly open convention, which does not choose anyone Trump has already beaten.”

“The Post’s View: Who ‘looks like’ a terrorist in America?”Washington Post, June 20.  “Mr. Trump’s thinking is not just poisonous in a pluralistic society, but also pointlessly and counterproductively so.”

“New anti-Trump movement grows to include hundreds of GOP delegates” Washington Post, June 21.

“Organizers concede their plan could worsen internal party strife, but believe they are responding to deep-rooted concerns among conservatives.”

“Stephen Colbert’s brutal takedown of Donald Trump includes a swastika” By Aron Blake, June 15.

A review of other headlines on Post columnists recent columns also point out their obsession.

Dana Milbank:

“Trump’s Potemkin village”

“The right response to Donald Trump? A media blackout.”

“Trump exploits Orlando’s tragedy to smear Muslims and Obama”

“Everywhere Paul Ryan turns, there’s the smell of Trump”

“Republicans finally discover that Trump is an actual racist”

Eugene Robinson:

“The challenges in covering Trump’s relentless assault on the truth”

“You can’t be for and against Trump”

“Endorsing Trump will leave a mark”

“Trump refutes Trump”

“The GOP now belongs to Trump. What are Republicans going to do about it?”

“It may be too late for the GOP to stop Trump”

George Will:

“The ‘big price’ Paul Ryan has paid for supporting Donald Trump”

“Who will follow Trump off the cliff?”

“If Trump is nominated, the GOP must keep him out of the White House”

“Do Republicans really think Donald Trump will make a good Supreme Court choice?”

“Donald Trump relishes wrecking the GOP”

That is just a sample from one newspaper.  I am not even going to bother with the opinion pieces masquerading as news stories and there were plenty of them.  And still the Presidential race is neck and neck.  That may be what is bothering them.  No one is listening to them.

when the republican party has turned away from the supposedly Republican candidate it should tell you something. They know he would not be able tro deal with the problems of the President’s office.
A blow hard who has insulted nearly every world leader just about. How is he supposed to deal with them. This is not the age where you can demand and get you have to bargain, because there are a lot of players in the field now, not just the US..

I go back a ways and I cannot recall a previous election when a yet to be confirmed candidate of either political party was so maligned by the U.S. Print and broadcast media ! This all began back in the early sixties when Liberal college professors were turned loose to pitch their aggressive Liberal agenda to their naïve young charges who were protesting every aspect of government in the streets toward the end of that decade. They were told that their efforts would be rewarded with the eventual creation of a Socialist Super State ! The result of all this was a major change in 1968 when the Southern States abandoned the Democrats and moved across the isle to the Right and the position of POTUS was handed to the Republicans who stayed in control of that office for twenty of the next twenty four years. We continue to hear fragments of this today with a total rejection of our government from those who have contributed nothing to the government’s operation and survival as they continue to demand their free ride from the same government !

If you do some reading you will finsd out that JFK made those remarks aimed at the rich, and Corporations which he thought did not pay their fair share of anything.
