It’s a very subtle shot, but a shot nonetheless. Michelle Obama joined “Late Late Show” host James Corden on his wildly popular “Carpool Karaoke” segment Wednesday night, where Obama appeared to take a swipe at Hillary Clinton’s infamous “3 a.m. phone call” ad from her 2008 presidential campaign against then-Sen. Barack Obama:
Obama and Corden were joking about having a 24-hour chef on staff in the White House. Obama insisted that this service is not used as much as people think.
“You know what, that’s nice, but the freedom that we’ll get in exchange for the privileges and the luxuries, I think–you know, seven and a half years, that’s enough luxuriating,” she said. “I can make my own grilled cheese sandwich.”
Corden said that was understandable, but he was still pretty sure that he would use that service quote often.
“That’s nice, although, you rarely do that, though,” Obama said.
“I would,” Corden said. “I’d be like, ‘Mark, the usual.’ It’s 3 a.m. and I want a milkshake and a grilled cheese!”
Then Obama delivered her apparent subtle dig at Clinton.
“That’s the 3 a.m. phone call you’ll be prepared for,” she said.
