The last thing the Hillary Clinton campaign can want to talk about in the middle of her convention is whether Russia has all of her deleted classified emails from her private server she was never supposed to have. The one she almost got indicted over.
Yet, that is precisely the narrative Democrats’ gambit to blame the Democratic National Committee (DNC) leaked emails on Russia — and Donald Trump — has caused.
For days, Democrat officials have accused Trump of colluding with the Russians on the DNC emails which appeared on Wikileaks.com over the weekend. Even of committing illegal espionage by appearing at a press conference. First Amendment, anyone?
So, Trump walks out into a press conference on Wednesday, joking Russia might have some more Clinton emails in their archives: “Russia, if you are listening, I hope you are able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by the press.”
And Democrats took the bait. Even mainstream media outlets are running with that story — like it’s real, doubling down on their convention narrative.
“The truth is that a Trump victory in November would be a gift to Vladimir Putin — and given what we have learned about Russia’s recent actions, Putin is eager for Trump to win,” one-time Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told Democratic National Convention delegates on Tuesday with a straight face. “And that should worry every American,” she added.
Trump plotting with Vladimir Putin? International intrigue. Hacked servers. And perfect timing for releasing the DNC emails onto Wikileaks — changing the focus of the convention and breeding disunity among Democrats.
And Trump was behind it all. Yeah, right.
It’s dumb. So dumb it would make a typical James Bond film appear to be somewhat plausible. Let’s just make Melania a double agent Bond girl while we’re at it.
For months, Democrats and the media have been telling Americans Trump doesn’t have the contacts or expertise to operate a robust foreign policy.
Now, with the biggest stage they’ve had, they’ve reversed course and turned Trump into a Machiavellian mastermind on the world stage — who deftly manipulates events with the craftiness of Iago.
It is impossible that Democrats wanted to spend their convention talking about nutty conspiracy theories making their opponent look like an evil genius all to explain their devastating email security issues — and why they’re suddenly losing in the polls.
Yet here we are.
Apparently, the D in DNC is for desperation.
The next you know they’ll be questioning Trump’s birth certificate.
In the meantime, once again the focus is on Trump — and Clinton’s emails. This helps Clinton how?
