A surefire way to lose the support of the American people is to say you’ll take away their guns. And while Hillary Clinton may not storm into your home and confiscate your weapons, her draconian gun control platform would make it nearly impossible for everyday Americans — even those without criminal records — to purchase some of the most popular firearms on the market:
Mrs. Clinton’s platform calls for an expansion of background checks for all firearms purchases. She’s also called for a reinstatement of the national assault weapons ban and a prohibition on high-capacity magazines.
The former secretary of state also is a staunch supporter of the so-called “no fly, no buy” proposal that would stop anyone on federal terrorist watch lists from buying guns. The plan has been rejected by civil liberties advocates who say such a ban — which would apply to Americans who haven’t been charged with a crime but merely are on the government’s radar — is a blatant violation of due process rights.
While running for U.S. Senate in 2000, Mrs. Clinton also supported legislation that would’ve established a national federal registry for all guns — though such an idea doesn’t appear to be part of her 2016 presidential platform.
But wait — there’s more! In 1993, Clinton endorsed a 25 percent national retail sales tax on all gun purchases. More recently, while on the campaign trail last fall (in New Hampshire, of all places!), she said an Australian-style gun buyback program was “worth considering.”
But perhaps most disturbing of all is the fact that Clinton — like most liberals — doesn’t even understand the gun laws currently on the books. During the final presidential debate, she claimed that the landmark D.C. v. Heller Supreme Court case was about protecting toddlers.
President Clinton would destroy the Second Amendment — and she genuinely wouldn’t even realize it.
