Georgetown professor wants white people to keep ‘individual reparations accounts’

It’s been nearly 152 years since slavery was abolished in the United States, but Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson believes modern white people should keep an “individual reparations account” to atone for the sins of America’s past:

Mr. Dyson was discussing his forthcoming book, “Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America,” with New York Times Magazine when he touched on a subject in his book that talks about white people making reparations on the local and individual level.

The Times’ Ana Marie Cox said Mr. Dyson suggested donating to the United Negro College Fund or paying “the black person who cuts your grass double what you might ordinarily pay.”

“Look, if it doesn’t cost you anything, you’re not really engaging in change; you’re engaging in convenience,” Mr. Dyson said. “You’re engaged in the overflow. I’m asking you to do stuff you wouldn’t ordinarily do. I’m asking you to think more seriously and strategically about why you possess what you possess.

“That is what I meant by an I.R.A.: an individual reparations account,” he continued. “You ain’t got to ask the government, you don’t have to ask your local politician — this is what you, an individual, conscientious, ‘woke’ citizen can do.

In case you aren’t familiar with it, “woke” is a slang term typically used by the black community to describe people who are self-aware. And, evidently, according to Dyson being “woke” means treating black people differently because of the color of their skin.

I wonder what Dr. King would have to say about that.

Never used the service, don’t need to pay for it. Anyone who feels the need should “Go for it”. What a bunch of hooey!

I suggest that Mr. Dyson adhere to his own recommendation and keep a similar account for every 15 times one of his race commits a crime against whites.

If reparations are due to anyone it would be those left behind in Africa. Their descendants are the real losers in this deal. The professor is sounding like affirmative action run amok.

Things couldn’t have been that bad ! After the Civil War a wealthy Jew provided two sailing ships for all Black Americans who wanted to return to Africa. He couldn’t even fill half of one of those ships ! Blacks of that period knew where their best interests laid and it wasn’t 19th century Africa !

Show me ONE slave owner or former slave owner!

Present day Americans should in NO WAY be held responsible for something that happened BEFORE their lifetime! This is the SAME KIND OF THINKING that ANTI-SEMITISM is based on!! It’s DELUSIONAL thinking based on GREED not logic or common sense!

All I can say is what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. White people weren’t the ONLY slave owners in this country. There were Black slave owners, as well. If Mr. Dyson desires all of the White people to set up ‘atonement’ accounts, then, the Blacks must do so, too. After all, we want to be fair, don’t we?

    • tnetcenter

WE want to be fair, LIEBERALS don’t however!

Well, why don’t we make the blacks pay us back for all their criminal activities. Pay us back for SUPPORTING them while they are in PRISON.

We’ve spent TRILLIONS SUPPORTING black families through WELFARE and paying for their HOUSING, FOOD, MEDICAL CARE, EDUCATION and their CABLE USE while in our prisons.

Or we could get them a ONE WAY TICKET back to the AFRICA that they love so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell that stupid ahole to go F!ck himself. Ask him if he was ever a slave>I think not just as I was never a slave owner. What demented progressive thinking. While we are here Al Sharpton is another stupid demented jerk.

Less than one percent of Americans owned slaves, and many of those were blacks! Indeed, if reparations are due anyone it would be the relatives of those who fought and died to free the slaves.

I actually have such an account. I routinely add to it as my income permits. .22 long rifle; 9mm; .38+P hollow point; .357; 7.62×39; 7.62×51; 7.62×54; .50; .45; .45 long colt; Slingshot rounds in 1/4; 3/8; and 1/2; arrows in various weights and configurations; wide variety of knives, spears; tomahawks and other edged weapons. I will of course begin delivering these upon demand and in appropriate amounts.

How much of my tax dollars are being spent on this “professor’s” salary? He is a perfect example of why the illegal federal dept of indoctrination (used to be education) should be eliminated. Return the entire responsibility to the states and better yet to the local level and students will then be educated again rather than dumbed down by the federal government.

Who is Dyson going to make reparations to in order to atone for Africans who sold other Africans into slavery? And then there’s the problem of blacks who ate each other in Africa, is he going to make reparations for that, and to whom? I’m afraid Dyson is simply playing into the hands of those who think African-Americans are just takers, out for a free ride.

I do not remember committing any heinous sins against black people, nor my parents, nor my grand-parents, nor the generations past to the 1600s. What makes this hatred continue is people like this professor and many like him. Many black people believe the government and white people owe them, No one is owed anything. If you can not make a living through learning, hard work and self respect you should not receive a hand out. I have known people of different colors that have come from poor and poverty back grounds and made a life for themselves and their families. years I have heard many politicians, Hollywood celebrities, sports figures, and those with their 15 minutes of fame condemn white people for sins of the past. My question is how long should anyone be held responsible for the acts or sins of our fathers. how about we go back to the African tribes that practiced slavery and make them be held for reparations. How far can we go back 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000 years? where does it stop?
