An illegal immigrant has been charged with the murder of a Massachusetts public school teacher:
Jose Melendez, 54, allegedly killed Sandra Hehir by strangulation in her Worcester apartment, where she was found, the Boston Globe reported.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials confirmed to Breitbart Texas that they have placed an immigration detainer on Melendez.
Police say DNA evidence from a 2000 rape case linked Melendez to Hehir’s murder:
“Worcester Police went back to the 2000 rape case and took a look at the suspect in that case and that led to the defendant before you in this court José Melendez also known as Jose Alvarado,” Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Riddle said.
Melendez, who also uses the aliases “Alvarado” and “Segura,” has a long criminal history:
In 2014, Melendez defaulted on probation after being convicted for breaking and entering, according to the Globe, and is currently charged in two drug-related crimes after he allegedly used a false name with Worcester police.
It’s a mystery as to why Melendez was not previously deported. Had he been, perhaps Hehir, who was called “Buffy” by her friends, would still be alive.
Meanwhile, nearby Boston is attempting to become a sanctuary city.
Melendez’s arrest comes just one week after a Maryland high school student accused two illegal aliens of raping her in the boys’ bathroom during school hours.
