Founded as a hyper-violent El Salvadoran prison gang, “Mara Salvatrucha” or “MS-13” is one of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations.
Armed with their signature weapon, the machete, the gang has killed, raped, mutilated and tortured tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children across Central America and the United States.
The gang’s growth in the U.S. has been explosive in recent years, to the point where it can be found in peaceful suburbs in states like North Carolina, and ruthlessly murders victims like a pregnant young woman in suburban D.C.
And that growth has been fueled by Obama administration policies encouraging the illegal immigration of teens, prime recruits for MS-13.
“The flow of so-called Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) is so obviously the cause of the gang’s revival that the Post’s reporters have to acknowledge it up front,” National Review reports. “MS-13’s new push has been fueled by the recent influx of teenage immigrants like Danny, who traveled to the United States without guardians to escape poverty and gang violence only to fall back into it here,” the Post admits.
“From 2009 to 2014, the number of UACs apprehended by the Border Patrol, mostly teenaged boys, increased 13-fold from El Salvador, 15-fold from Guatemala, and 19-fold from Honduras,” National Review reports. “Mexicans caught at our southern border are sent back right away with relatively little fuss. But Mexico won’t take back non-Mexicans — even though its officials often wave people through on their way north — so returning these OTMs (Other Than Mexicans) to their countries takes more time. That presents the authorities with two options: either detain them until they can be repatriated or, if you run out of detention space, give them a summons to report to an immigration court (called a “notice to appear”) and let them go, even though it could be years before their scheduled court dates.”
Human smugglers in Central America made this a central selling point, telling parents if their children could manage to cross into the U.S., Obama would give them amnesty.
Because of that claim, Border Patrol agents were overwhelmed as thousands of illegals snuck over the border, then walked TO Border Patrol stations to turn themselves in, believing they would be given amnesty papers.
Instead of amnesty papers, these illegals were given court dates and free bus tickets. Once settled somewhere in the U.S., the Obama administration claimed they would voluntarily show up for their deportation hearing.
Virtually none did, but many did end up joining MS-13.
“In the Washington region alone, at least 42 young people who crossed into the United States by themselves have been involved in MS-13 violence over the past three years, The Post found. That includes 19 charged in connection with slayings or attempted slayings and four who were killed,” the Post reports.
