It’s like someone took every liberal obsession and tossed it in a blender.
The Oregon legislature has passed, and radical leftist Governor Kate Brown is expected to sign, a bill forcing insurance companies to provide abortions for all.
If an Oregonian still can’t afford an abortion, the law forces taxpayers to fund it.
And it even guarantees taxpayer-funded abortions for illegals.
“The measure, known as the Reproductive Health Equity Act of 2017, requires that insurance companies provide coverage for abortions, and also entitles illegal aliens to free abortion services,” The New American reports. “These abortions, for both citizens and illegals, would be ‘free,’ or taxpayer-funded, even if they are not considered medically necessary. The taxpayers will pay for the procedures, even if they are purely elective. Late-term as well as sex-selection abortions will be among these ‘free’ procedures.”
“It was already the only state that has virtually no restrictions on abortion. Oregon taxpayers have paid for 52,000 abortions over the past 14 years, at a cost of $24 million,” The New American notes.
Liberals are howling with glee.
“The plan includes immigrants, transgender and gender-nonconforming people, and the uninsured,” Mother Jones magazine crows.
Leftists plan to impose the measure on other states.
Mother Jones notes:
Proactive reproductive health legislation may become more common in liberal states eager to mitigate the effects of an ACA repeal. The New York state assembly recently passed two measures, the Reproductive Health Act and the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, that would protect abortion and contraceptive access if the ACA is dismantled. On Saturday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that health insurers in the state would be required to cover most forms of contraception and medically necessary abortions at no cost. A Democratic legislator in Illinois is considering introducing a bill that would expand abortion coverage for women on Medicaid and some forms of state insurance. In Virginia, Democrats have introduced several bills to counteract attacks on reproductive health; one of them—the Birth Control Access Act—would allow women to obtain an entire year of birth control at one time.
